Peels can be used to treat sun damaged areas of the body such as the arms, hands, and back. Typically stronger concentrations of peels are utilized to achieve desirable results.

Our body peels are accompanied by a Therapeutic body lotion to further enhance results and promote healing. This principle is used in our chemical peel in Tucson accounting for the unique environmental factors here.

What are chemical peels?

Over time, the skin is compromised by sun damage, the elements, toxins in the environment, and the aging process. Normal methods of cleansing and exfoliating don’t always work when it comes to revitalizing the complexion because the buildup of dirt, oil, and debris is too immense. That is where a chemical peel steps in. Chemical peels can help remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells, reduce blemishes, and improve luminosity. Each peel can be customized; there are mild, moderate, and intense level peels to choose from made with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). Chemical peels can be instrumental in combating wrinkles, lines, poor skin texture, enlarged pores, acne, hyperpigmentation, and more. While some chemical peels may seem gentle enough to be performed by anyone, only a licensed professional must conduct your procedure to ensure a safe, successful result.

Light

A light chemical peel addresses the outer layer of skin, called the epidermis. A light chemical peel is the most gentle type of peel, designed to remove only the outer layer of your skin. Light chemical peels treat fine lines, mild wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and texture and dryness. Light chemical peels can be done every two to five weeks.

Medium

A medium chemical peel goes deeper than the surface of your skin. Medium chemical peels address both the outer layer of the skin and reach the middle layer of your skin, called the dermis. Medium chemical peels treat mild-to-moderate wrinkles, acne, acne scars, pigment concerns, and uneven skin tone or texture. Medium chemical peels may need to be repeated to achieve your ideal results.

Deep

A deep chemical peel addresses the epidermis and penetrates well into the dermis below. A deep chemical peel is the most intense type of peel and can provide the most significant results. Deep peels address deeper wrinkles, dry skin, skin tone and pigment concerns, more significant scars, precancerous growths and a number of other skin concerns. Repeat peels aren’t necessary to achieve the full effect.

What are the benefits of chemical peels in Tucson?

A solution is applied to the face during a chemical peel that makes the outermost damaged layer of skin blister and peels off. The new skin revealed underneath is smoother, tighter, and more youthful. While chemical peels are typically applied to the face, they can also rejuvenate the neck or hands. Our Tucson chemical peel can treat various skin conditions and age-related flaws, including wrinkles and lines, sun damage, facial scarring, age spots, freckles, melasma, poor skin tone and texture, and enlarged pores. One of the best benefits of chemical peels is that they can be customized to your comfort level, skin type, and lifestyle. If you don’t have time to sit through the recovery period for a deeper peel, you can always undergo a superficial peel and still see excellent results.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels are not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Rather, they are uniquely formulated to the patient’s needs. The chemical solution used can be mild, moderate, or aggressive, depending on the client’s level of desired renewal. More intense chemical peels will have a longer downtime. Once the potency of your chemical peel is decided upon, the solution is applied to your skin. The solution interacts with the top skin layer to dissolve it, uncovering a new layer of healthier, brighter, and blemish-free skin. The level of exfoliation achieved with a professional chemical peel is exponentially greater than at-home methods using brushes or over-the-counter products.

At ZL, we add an extra touch to provide one of the best chemical peels Tucson, AZ has to offer.

When should I get a chemical peel?

Superficial chemical peels can be performed monthly, while a deep chemical peel might be undergone once a year. Your practitioner will determine the best time to receive a chemical peel after a thorough evaluation of your complexion. Because moderate to deep chemical peels will render the skin highly sensitive to the sun, they should only be done at times when UV exposure is minimal. Clients who are out in the sun regularly might opt for a more superficial peel.

What will I experience during a chemical peel in Tucson?

If you undergo a mild chemical peel, you will experience a tingling sensation afterward and some minor redness similar to a sunburn. These symptoms typically last less than a week. For the deeper peels, your skin will be numbed before treatment, which helps to offset discomfort. After a more intense peel, your skin will be red, swollen, and blistered for around 1-2 weeks. A bandage may be applied to minimize your swelling, and you will receive prescriptions for pain medications. It is imperative that you wear sunscreen after your chemical peel, regardless of its potency. This will help preserve and maintain your results.

Peels Don't Always Peel

When you hear “peel”, you imagine red, flaky skin on your face, right? This is a common misconception. Most of our peels cause only minimal skin peeling (desquamation) which is even less with the products we provide you for home use. The best part is, a peel doesn’t have to flake and shed to actually work!

As with everything we do at ZL, a chemical peel in Tucson is customized just for your skin.

What to know before you get a Chemical Peel

  • Typically, 4-6 treatments are needed every 2-4 weeks, and then you maintain results with one treatment every few months.
  • Discontinue retinoids (skin products containing retinol) and tanning 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Inform us if you have a history of cold sores. We can help you with a medication to help reduce recurrences.
  • Plan to stay out of the sun for 48 hours following a peel.
  • Strenuous exercise that causes facial redness and flushing is to be avoided for 48 hours.
  • The extent of "flaking" or redness after a peel will vary greatly from person to person, therefore we recommend a minimum of two weeks before any major social event (weddings, professional photographs, etc.)
