What is IPL Photofacial?

Our Tucson IPL photofacial, also known as IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy, is a procedure wherein highly-calibrated light energy is channeled into the skin tissues to address your skin concerns. The IPL device delivers various wavelengths of light energy, with each wavelength addressing different skin concerns. As such, the IPL can be calibrated according to your unique skin type, skin color, and skin concerns to reverse the signs of aging, sun damage, acne, vascular lesions, and other textural irregularities.

How does IPL Photofacial work?

Skin Tightening

The IPL energy penetrates the skin’s surface and enters the deeper dermal layers to activate collagen production. Collagen is a fibrous protein that makes your skin appear smooth, soft, voluminous, and youthful. As you grow older, your body’s ability to produce collagen is compromised, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. IPL photofacial stimulates collagen production to reverse the signs of aging.

Skin Rejuvenation

Different skin concerns can be addressed with different wavelengths of light. Whatever your skin concerns might be, such as hyperpigmentation, melasma, vascular lesions, freckles, etc., IPL photofacial can improve your complexion. The cosmetic provider calibrates the device to deliver the ideal IPL wavelength for your concerns. The light energy is absorbed by the pigmented lesions or blood vessels, and they’re subsequently destroyed. This addresses most textural irregularities.

Acne Treatment

The IPL device can be adjusted to a specific wavelength to kill p.acnes, the bacteria responsible for your acne breakouts. The device also reduces the pore size to minimize sebum accumulation, another common cause of acne breakouts. Furthermore, our Tucson IPL treatment can also resurface the skin to minimize the appearance of acne scars, helping you achieve smooth and even-textured skin.

Am I a good candidate for IPL Photofacial?

IPL photofacial is suitable for everyone, regardless of skin type, skin color, skin concerns, age, or gender. That’s because the IPL photofacial treatment is extremely versatile, adjustable according to each individual’s unique needs and concerns. However, our cosmetic providers will run some tests or review your medical history to ensure you’re a viable candidate for IPL photofacial.

Your'e a good candidate for IPL photofacial if you struggle with:
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Vascular lesions

How is IPL Photofacial performed?

Your IPL photofacial treatment is preceded by a comprehensive skincare analysis and consultation. Our cosmetic providers carefully examine your skin quality, discuss your specific goals and concerns, and review your health history to curate the ideal treatment plan. As mentioned earlier, IPL is a highly personalized treatment — our providers adjust the treatment according to your specific goals, concerns, and skin type.

During the IPL photofacial treatment, our providers will cleanse the treatment areas and apply a numbing gel to ensure a comfortable experience. The IPL photofacial handpiece is calibrated according to your needs and moved across the treatment areas. As the handpiece glides over your skin, it delivers pulses of light energy to activate collagen production or remove the textural irregularities. The procedure concludes within 30 minutes.

What is recovery like after IPL Photofacial?

IPL photofacial is a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment that concludes within 30 minutes with no downtime. Your skin will look flushed, sort of like a sunburn, for a few hours. But you can resume all your daily activities and work without interruption. However, you might experience sensitivity for a few days, and you’re advised to wear plenty of sunscreen when stepping outside.

How soon will I see the results after an IPL Photofacial?

The IPL photofacial results will gradually appear over several days or weeks, depending on the treatment area and the goals. Collagen stimulation takes a long time, so the skin tightening results will appear over multiple weeks and sessions. If you opt for IPL photofacial for the pigmented lesions and freckles, they’ll become darker before eventually flaking off. However, you’ll need to follow through with all the recommended sessions to see optimal results.

How many IPL Photofacial treatments will I need?

Most patients need 3 to 7 IPL photofacial sessions for optimal results, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. However, the specific number of sessions depends on the treatment areas, targeted concerns, and goals. Your cosmetic provider will recommend the ideal IPL photofacial frequency for optimal results.
