BroadBand Light

The BroadBand Light (BBL)™ laser by Sciton® uses intense flashes of light to penetrates the skin, causing damage to the pigment, tissue, or blood vessels. When this happens, your body’s “repair team” is signaled, thereby reducing the appearance of discoloration. Before your BBL treatment, you’ll be given protective eyewear, and a cooling gel will be applied to your skin to keep you comfortable.

The laser will deliver rapid bursts of light energy directly into the skin, with any discomfort being very minimal. Treatments take approximately 20 minutes, but the exact time will vary from patient to patient. After treatment, the skin is sometimes red for the rest of the day, but there is no actual downtime. Typically 1 to 3 treatments are needed, spaced about five weeks apart.

Chemical peels

HALO: Dual wavelengths for dramatic results

HALO is a laser treatment designed to improve many skin conditions, including sun damage. As the first hybrid fractional laser, HALO combines two different wavelengths (micro-ablative and non-ablative) in one laser device. Both the epidermis and the dermis can be treated simultaneously, and 25% to 30% of the skin can be resurfaced. This means better results without the downtime that comes with more aggressive laser treatments.

HALO treatment details

Before treatment, a topical numbing agent will be applied, and you’ll also be given protective eyewear. Once you’re properly numbed, the treatment will begin. Many patients describe the handheld device as feeling like a “roller ball” passing along the skin. There will be a hot sensation on your skin, but very tolerable. It doesn’t hurt, but we can offer cooling packs if you prefer. In addition, cooling cream will be applied after treatment to help calm your skin. HALO treatments take 1 to 2 hours, including the time it takes for the topical numbing agent to work.

Common side effects include mild swelling and redness, the sensation of a sunburn, dry/rough skin, and tiny dark spots or discoloration on the skin. These are all normal, and temporary. Most patients return to normal activities the day following treatment, and see improved skin tone and texture after only 1 or 2 treatments.
