Pro Tips to Avoid Looking Tired this Holiday Season
We are entering one of the busiest times of the year, and you’re bound to feel a little frazzled and tired at some point, but your face doesn’t need to show it. The eye area is the focal point on the face. While it may seem the best way to brighten up your appearance is to just address the undereye area, the solution is a little more complex. The eye area is influenced by the brow, the muscles around the eye, the cheeks, and the skin. To achieve a balanced and blended look, all of these areas should be addressed. Pay a visit to your plastic surgeon and skilled injector for a some “tweaks” to refresh your look.
Below are a few things we like to do to freshen up our appearance without looking overdone, and the best part is these “tweaks” will last at least 3 months.
1.Botox or Dysport to soften crows feet will also open the outer corner of the eye, creating the illusion of a more alert and awake appearance. The muscle around your eye responsible for those crows feet acts like a sphincter, so when we add muscle relaxing Botox, the sphincter opens up a little bit. Say goodbye to squinty Christmas photos!
2. A slight lift to the tail end of the brow makes the eye appear younger and larger. A couple units of Botox to the very end of the brow is all it takes to make a subtle change. A downward pull of the brow causes the eye to appear smaller. A youthful brow sits higher on the lateral end than the medial or inner portion.
3. Long and full lashes always help. You know this already, its why you don’t dare leave the house without mascara! As we age we lose lashes, and even the best mascara can’t make up for missing lashes. Latisse is the only FDA approved treatment to grow lashes. Results take 6 weeks and must be continued every night to maintain.
4. Improve the “sunken eye” appearance with strategically placed dermal fillers in the cheek and tear trough. In our thirties we start to notice some hollowing under the eye, which is normal as the fat pads in our cheeks start to lose volume and slide. This loss of fat along our cheekbone exaggerates and elongates the junction between the orbital rim (eye socket) and the cheek. Thicker fillers, such as Juvederm Voluma and Restylane Lyft can be placed along the cheekbone to lift up the skin and fat pads back into the position it was during your younger years. In some cases, filler can be placed in the tear trough itself to disguise the appearance of hollows.
5. Find a medical grade eye cream to start using day and night to treat dark circles and thin crepey skin. Our eyes are the first part of our face to show visible signs of aging, so start an eye cream in your teens or 20’s. Look for ingredients like peptides, niacinomides, and optical diffusers.
6. Make an appointment for a skin tightening treatment to the eye area, such as Thermi, which tightens and smooths the upper lid and lower lid area. Medical grade skin tightening treatments will help to tighten by stimulating collagen production via ultrasound or radiofrequency. Thermi uses radiofrequency energy to heat tissue and initiate the collagen production sequence of events.
7. An injection of PRP (platelet rich plasma) introduces powerful and natural growth factors to tighten and improve texture of the undereye area. PRP is obtained by separating out the growth factors from your own blood, and then injecting directly into the tissue under the eye. Growth factors cause collagen formation and improves thinning skin under the eye.
8. Address your entire face with chemical peels, microneedling, and a good home based skin regimen. 90% of what you see in the mirror or your selfie, is your skin. Professional treatments such as peels and microneedling improve tone, texture, pore size, pigmentation, and acne. Maintain those results with medical grade skincare at home. Healthy skin will reflect light better, and appear younger.
